The Showcase – From Woo!
The great folks over at Woothemes.com have added my site to their showcase. Calzo.co.uk is based on their Canvas theme and the Woo framework. It’s a crazy flexible platform for building wordpress sites. To work alongside my record label DimeRock Records, I put together a small team and set up a web design and hosting company for the entertainment industry called GlobalMega. We hope to continue using Woothemes and their amazing support staff where possible! Thanks Woo!
Bebobook? Facebo?
Commuters with your computers! Just a quick update and to let you all know that I no longer use my facebook account. The account still exists and is active and will be checked every few months but I have removed all of my status updates and posts thanks to a handy online app called Clean My Wall and it will not be updated again. Why? Facebook is being over run by the “bebo generation”.
From absolutely pointless invitations to club nights, photo’s of peoples kids, girls posting photo’s of shoes and tagging their mates, masses of irrelevant adverts, people moaning about monday mornings and looking forward to the weekend… and it goes on and on and on…. same shite every week. Why not just hide or remove those people? Good question… but why not just stop using it instead?
Facebook, it has been a fun 4+ years but fuck me, get some of your shit together. Facebook has opened the flood gates to allow any muppet with a computer and their annoying kids to join. It’s the online equivalent of sitting on a long haul flight with 100 screaming kids and a bunch of moaning uneducated retards going out on the piss every weekend and wondering why they feel like shit on a monday morning. Aye very good Calzo, get off your high-horse and wind your neck in.
I’ll be socially active online over on Twitter [@calzo], Google+ or on this very website…

Projects & Procrastinating
There’s never enough hours in the day to sleep 13 and work the rest if you get distracted easily, have a girlfriend, play xbox, eat loads of cake and have more projects on the go than is humanly possible to manage. I have tried all sorts of software and techniques to manage my time between projects, work, crazy ideas and personal life and you end up needing an extra hour a day just to get the bloody software to work for you. So, here are the more interesting projects that are taking up my time…
SoundScrew dot net
I’ve not had a chance to talk much about the new DimeRock Records venture named SoundScrew.net.
In May 2010 the DimeRock Records label morphed in to the DimeRock Music Group and acquired a small online music retailer named SoundScrew. The company hadn’t made much of a dent in the online music retail business but they did bring something unique. They allowed independent or unsigned artists to legally license and sell their music online whilst having the protection of Performing Right Society (PRS). They also prided themselves on giving a huge helping hand to artists in the form of online marketing, advertising and industry knowledge. Fast forward 2 years and SoundScrew was in trouble. Both financially and legally.
The idea was there but they didn’t have the backing to make it work. We stepped in and decided to give it an overhaul, both in terms of company structure and aesthetics of the site. The initial idea of giving unsigned artists a professional platform to sell their music intrigued me and it looks to be growing into something much bigger with the help and backing of iTunes, CD Baby, Envato’s Audio Jungle and PRS. We have quite a lot of unique tricks up our sleeves that we want to keep under wraps until launch but we are sure that you will love it.
I’ve been working on the business, design and build sides of the project so it’s kept me very busy and taking up most of my spare time. You’ll notice a countdown ticker to launch on the website at the moment. This has changed in the last few months and will no doubt change again as 2011 draws closer but keep an eye out and let your musical friends know.

Composing & Producing
I’ve got so many personal music projects on the go that I can’t seem to get one of them released on time. More details are kicking about the blog somewhere and in the discography section.
Excited to have been working on some productions for Le Cafe Abstrait, hopefully to be released in the near future. Check out their website for details.
Universal Music approached me to write a String/Orchestra score for a young producers album that will be released at the start of 2011. I don’t really know much about the album yet but it’s going to be filled but some great original tracks covering a wide range of genres.
Radio
We have been recording a radio show titled ‘The War On Weather” along with short radio pieces and original tracks that are getting airplay on LPR 89.6 for the next couple of weekends, from 11pm. It’s a great laugh. I’m trying to get hold of the original radio recordings and I’ll post them up on this site asap.
Design
The new background on my website. Smart eh. It will change over time as I add new stuff on there but it’s a start.
… and that’ll do for now. As always, check out the links at the bottom of the website. You can find me and the rest of the team kicking about on most major social networks and music forums out there. DimeRock Records is still doing what it’s doing and fighting in the crazy world of the music industry so check out the site.
